Intro to Long Form Musical Improv

Shenanigans Comedy Theatre - Black Box - 2650 Leeman Ferry Road Southwest, Suite F, Huntsville, AL 35801, USA

Ages 17+: In this four hour workshop, you’ll learn a number of improv singing games as well as how to incorporate music into your scene work.  We will warm up and gather around the piano and learn what makes an improvised song work and how to sustain it.  Towards the end of the workshop we will be running through fully improvised musicals, knowing where to place the songs, why we sing, and how to tie up a narrative that’s satisfying.  Hopefully you’ll also see improvised musicals as your favoritest thing ever!

Brian Michael Jones began his professional musical theater career with Oliver! and highlights from his many stage productions include West Side Story and 42nd Street both with the original Broadway choreography.  He has danced and sung in many films and TV shows over the years with two memorable ones being Joel and Ethan Coen’s Hail Caesar! with Channing Tatum as the aptly named Sailor #1 and a singing telegram fish in Grey’s Anatomy.  He was Frodo in the award winning “Fellowship!” a musical parody of Fellowship of the Ring and even got to improvise songs with Brian Henson’s Puppet Up! in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.  Since moving to TN he has performed in Jersey Boys and Little Shop of Horrors!  On the improv stage, he’s performed in hundreds of full length improvised musicals over the years.  If you can’t tell already, he’s serious about funny-make-em-ups and musical improv is his most favoritest thing ever.
